Cat scratching training requires patience

My brother Forry used to say, "Patience isn't my long suit." It's not mine either because basically I don't like to wait for anything. How about you? Like most people, I want everything right now. When dealing with other creatures--cats for example--it's good to keep in mind that they aren't long on patience either. They want whatever right *now*. So, if a cat feels inclined to scratch, he or she will scratch whatever is available and in the ballpark of suitable--unless trained to scratch only approved targets. This is why training and patience are essential.
